About Chemistry Department
Chemistry is the study of matter and energy and the interactions between them. Everything you hear, see, smell, taste, and touch involves chemistry and chemicals (matter). With such an enormous range of matter, it is essential to know about chemistry at some level in order to understand the world around us. It tends to focus on the properties of substances and the interactions between different types of matter, particularly reactions that involve electrons.
Understanding chemistry helps you to understand the world around you. Everything you can touch or taste or smell is a chemical. It’s the explanation for everyday things, like why laundry detergent works better in hot water or how baking soda works or why not all pain relievers work equally well on a headache. If you know some chemistry, you can make educated choices about everyday products that you use.
You could use chemistry in most fields, but its use is most commonly seen in the science and medicine. Chemists, physicists, biologists, engineers, doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, physical therapists, and veterinarians all take chemistry courses. So do truck drivers, plumbers, artists, hairdressers, chefs… the list is extensive.
In more formal terms chemistry is the study of matter and the changes it can undergo. Chemists sometimes refer to matter as ‘stuff’, and indeed so it is. Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. Which is to say, anything you can touch or hold. Common usage might have us believe that ‘chemicals’ are just those substances in laboratories or something that is not a natural substance. Far from it, chemists believe that everything is made of chemicals.

About Humanities Department
At Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology, we believe the education we provide our students is far more than just career preparation for their first job. We challenge our students to develop life-long skills such as analytical thinking, clarity in written and spoken expression, collaboration, and creativity. These skills can all be developed through the Humanities Department and are valuable in any career.
Just as importantly, we believe that our mission is to help students prepare for a rich, meaningful and engaged life that goes well beyond job titles and salary levels. Exposure to and understanding of the art of Humanities is key to developing qualities of responsible citizenship. It enables us to imagine the unimaginable, and to connect us to the past, the present, and the future, sometimes simultaneously.
Our ultimate aim is to develop informed & critical citizens because without humanities, democracy could not flourish.
