The Department is devoted to foster the fundamental principles and understanding of Science that are capable of enhancing the human experience. It is very well to say that, “There is no such thing as a special category of science called Applied Science, there is Science and its applications, which are related to one another as the fruit is related to the tree that has borne it.” By Louis Pasteur.
Department of Applied Science and Humanities plays a vital role in an Engineering College catering to the teaching of basic Sciences and Humanities Courses for Engineering students or learners of all branches. Department of Applied Science and Humanities strives for increasing the knowledge, enhancing the critical thinking, ability to change information into knowledge and power of analysing the things technically of each and every individual of ever changing Society through Students.
The purpose of ASH in engineering study is to lay a strong foundation of basic principles of various disciplines such as: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Communication Skills or English, Management and Physical Education in the mind of the learners, so that they proceed to rest of their years of study with up to date knowledge and training of basic engineering skills.
The Department of Applied Science and Humanities teaches and promotes practical aspects of ASH to build a solid foundation as part of the Engineering Education knowledge in basic science is an essential ingredient of any professional course. Department of Applied Science and Humanities aims to fulfil this function most efficiently.
About Chemistry Department
Chemistry is the study of matter and energy and the interactions between them. Everything you hear, see, smell, taste, and touch involves chemistry and chemicals (matter). With such an enormous range of matter, it is essential to know about chemistry at some level in order to understand the world around us. It tends to focus on the properties of substances and the interactions between different types of matter, particularly reactions that involve electrons.
Understanding chemistry helps you to understand the world around you. Everything you can touch or taste or smell is a chemical. It’s the explanation for everyday things, like why laundry detergent works better in hot water or how baking soda works or why not all pain relievers work equally well on a headache. If you know some chemistry, you can make educated choices about everyday products that you use.
You could use chemistry in most fields, but its use is most commonly seen in the science and medicine. Chemists, physicists, biologists, engineers, doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, physical therapists, and veterinarians all take chemistry courses. So do truck drivers, plumbers, artists, hairdressers, chefs… the list is extensive.
In more formal terms chemistry is the study of matter and the changes it can undergo. Chemists sometimes refer to matter as ‘stuff’, and indeed so it is. Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. Which is to say, anything you can touch or hold. Common usage might have us believe that ‘chemicals’ are just those substances in laboratories or something that is not a natural substance. Far from it, chemists believe that everything is made of chemicals.

About Humanities Department
Effective linguistic and communication skills are no longer perceived as soft skills. Increasingly, they are becoming an inseparable part of the core professional skills every technical and professional student should have. Surveys have proved that in any technical job or interview, only 20 percent importance is given to the relevant technical knowledge, while 80 percent emphasis is laid upon the communicative competence. Here, the Humanities Department provides the opportunity to develop students’ linguistic proficiency and communication competency, and also allows them to develop scientific temperament, foster analytical thinking, and nourish creative faculty.
Led by enthusiastic and diligent faculties, Humanities Department imparts a high quality education to the students of First year of Bachelors of Engineering and Masters of Computer Application as well. The curriculum facilitates the students with thorough understanding of all the four Communication skills viz. Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, in addition to familiarising the students with the fundamental components of English Grammar. The Department have a distinctive and well-equipped Language Lab, which allows the students to practically implement the theories and techniques they have learnt during the lecture hours. With innovative teaching methods, accurate computational assistance, and specially designed English Lab Manual & Software, students do not only improve their conversational and elocutionary aptitude, but also develop team-work spirit and leadership skills. At the end of the semester, drastic change has been observed even in the students, who were having average communication skills in the beginning.
Subjects being taught by Humanities Department:
- ENGLISH: LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION (3110002)
- COMMUNICATION SKILLS (3610005)
- CONTRIBUTOR’S PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT (1990001)
The Humanities Department aims to bring awareness about the importance of communication and soft skills in the scientific and technical arena.
We anticipate to transform the students into knowledgeable persons, comprehensive listeners, imaginative and independent thinkers, sound and spirited citizens and humble humans.
- To provide sound knowledge of grammar which will aid to develop linguistic prowess
- To familiarise students with Standard English Phonetics, which will help to accurate their accents and pronunciations as well as to cultivate oratory excellence
- To inspire the students to think creatively, critically & logically
- To enable the students to give talks and presentations, compose papers and proposals and write professional e-mails and technical reports in their technical office
- To capacitate the students to interact in a corporate environment, negotiate with a variety of audiences, and educate others
About Management Department
As per Tho Harmann, William Scott “Management is a social and technical process that utilizes resources, influences human action and facilitates changes, in order to accomplish an organization’s goals.”
For B.E.-2 &3year students need to study management subject for better understanding of humanity and technicality of jobs in industry as well as in life.
